| ho am I? That's a good question. Not even sure I can answer that. It may help to give a little history... | | | | rowing up, I always liked to draw. | | | | The Raven | The Alcove | Gallery North | By the time I got to high school, by my father's urging, I tried to take it a little more seriously, taking art classes and eventually even displaying my stuff at the Carson Gallery and Gallery North. | | | | hen, I discovered music—hey, what better way to irk my parents than by banging incoherently on drums? | | Squelch | Then I gave a hand at bass, and finally guitar (though lately I'm actually finding myself gravitating back to the bass).
here were a number of bands (Colour Autumn, Awful Truth, Dog Eat Dog, Unsuspecting Shabby Monkey) but it didn't really get serious until Squelch. For a number of years with Rob Ramsden (bassist and vocalist) and Bill Rohr (percussion) we toiled, hustled, and tried: the furthest we got was playing CBGB's and getting a track included on an independent compilation CD.
ut then it happens: the bassist gets married and moves to England, and the drummer joins the NYFD. Life gets more serious and everyone moves on. | | | | haven't drawn or painted anything in years—I think The Raven and The Alcove were my last two drawings when I was still in college (getting more serious, learning the art of computer programming—which actually requires some creativity, believe it or not). | | | | hen you turn 30. | | At 30 | You realize you've been working at the same place close to a decade, and that you've all but lost not only your youth but your muse.
hen something like this happens: AltArtLI.Com. And why not—I loved the idea. Art shouldn't happen in a vacuum or be forgotten about in a box of tapes or in the back of the closet—it should be shared with others and then either loved or hated. Having an audience—that's the cool part.
