Painting this started out slowly. I covered a canvas with watercolor, until the blue was the only color I could see. Blue is often the color I see when I am looking for hope and spirit, and strength. And slowly, very slowly, over a few months, when lifting out bits of color, the bird emerged, the hand emerged. This was painting was inspired by two people I love very much, my cousin Lucy, and her partner. It is inspired by their strength and courage and their love for one another that has allowed them to overcome the impossible.
