Welcome to the August 2005 installment of the Alternative Arts of Long Island E-Newsletter.
We would like to send out our warmest greeting to all of our new members, businesses and contributing artists.
We would also like to thank all of our members who have been helping us spread the word about AltArtLI across Long Island and throughout the country over the last few months.
We were able to more then double our total amount of volume of hits on our site this past month and a great deal of that is thanks to our members.
One member that Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to pay a special tribute to Howard Jerofsky, Vice President and Executive Director of Heavy Metal Magazine.
Howard Jerofsky was one of the first people we worked with when starting AltArtLI.
He believed in what we were doing so much that he offered us a full-page ad in the September 2005 edition of Heavy Metal to help us.
Well we are happy to report that the September 2005 edition of Heavy Metal Magazine is now out and we have a full-page ad on the 5th page.
We would like to thank Howard Jurofsky for being a man of his word along with the entire staff of Heavy Metal for helping us take Alternative Arts of Long Island to a much bigger place.
This is a very special issue for us here at Alternative Arts of Long Island and we urge all members to support Heavy Metal Magazine by picking up the September 2005 edition.
If you are not familiar with Heavy Metal, check out the Heavy Metal section in the Market which links directly to their site.
Heavy Metal Magazine offers a variety of dark comics along with showcasing amazing fantasy art done by artists such as Luis Royo, John Zeleznik, Lorenzo Sperlonga and many others.
The September 2005 edition features some amazing work by Gary Freeman, a.k.a. Evil G.
Alternative Arts of Long Island is proud to announce that on September 24th—September 25th, we will be doing a show in coordination with the new Country Corner Gallery in East Setauket.
Art and live music from the artists of AltArtLI will be the featured talent at this event.
It is important that all members of Alternative Arts of Long Island try to come and support this show.
This show is a big step in bringing us beyond the web and strengthening our physical community.
More information will be posted on the site within the next few weeks and a special edition of our newsletter regarding the show will be sent out to all members shortly.
Alternative Arts of Long Island would also like to welcome the Tiger Lily Cafe & Juice Bar to our site.
The Tiger Lily Cafe offers a variety of healthy and unique foods that are phenomenal.
They have been rated within the top 3 in AOL's CityGuide for the past three years, which is well deserved.
In my opinion, they have the best chicken salad I have ever had.
Inside the Tiger Lily Cafe, you will find a cozy setting for your dining enjoyment as you are surrounded by an array of beautiful art work done by local artists such as John Hawley and Emily Bowers to name a few.
The work of Emily Bowers is outstanding and is well worth the visit.
The Tiger Lily also offers live entertainment on most weekends.
For more information and directions, check out the Tiger Lily Cafe in the Market.
Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to welcome Reyaz Nadi to the Gallery.
This artist is originally from Afghanistan and has submitted some extraordinary work in three different sections of the gallery.
In the Art Studio, Reyaz is showing a collection of oil paintings that are without a doubt some of the most beautiful work on the site.
In our Dark Room, you can find some very interesting digitally manipulated photography from Reyaz, which show some familiar locations on Long Island in a unique and refreshing way.
Some of Reyaz's most charismatic work can be found in the Workshop where Reyaz has combined architectural design and his beliefs in the need for world peace and unity.
We are proud to showcase the work of Reyaz Nadi and show his unique perspective on the world.
Most of the pieces shown on the site from Reyaz are for sale.
Beyond the pieces shown on Alternative Arts of Long Island, Reyaz has created a large collection of works that offer an extensive range of style and feeling.
For more information, go to the Gallery and check out Reyaz Nadi's work.
Alternative Arts of Long Island is proud to welcome Splatterhouse Graphics to our Market section.
Splatterhouse Graphics offers custom automotive painting, graphics, airbrushing, pin striping and specializes in radical paintwork on motorcycles.
The owner Brian is a very cool guy to deal with and is a true artist.
Splatterhouse Graphics can be found in the Garage and is well worth checking out.
Finally, Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to let all of our members know what Ted has known for years: The place to get the best deals on new or used CDs and a whole lot more is Mr. Cheapo CD & Record Exchange.
This company is by no means "your typical Mom and Pop!"
Mr.Cheapo CD & Record Exchange is a family business that through the years has flourished to become one of the most well known used music stores on Long Island.
This is a true Ted pick because when Ted is looking for hard to find music at inexpensive prices, "It's Mr. Cheapos!"
We are grateful for all the help from our members and to show our appreciation, Alternative Arts of Long Island has recently redesigned portions of our site exclusively for our members so that our members can also become a part of the direction of Alternative Arts of Long Island.
One of the most recent member oriented facility on the site is the newly constructed Shed
The Shed is designed to take our message board community to the next level by giving our members a place to post pictures and audio along with a variety of other types of media.
We encourage all of our members to get involved and add to the clutter of the Shed.
Currently, you can check out the beautiful physique of our member Large who recently was able to overcome a serious eating disorder; or check out a short animated piece by our own TMJ showcasing the love of our lives, Ted.
We are glad to see the Ask Ted section of our site getting some attention.
This portion of the site is designed for users to get some help with general issues in life.
Ted is our rock here at Alternative Arts of Long Island and we felt it was important that we share Ted's advice and knowledge with the users and members of AltArtLI.
For the latest questions and answers posted go to the Ask Ted section of our site.
Ask Ted a question and join in the love fest that is Ted.
