Hello AltArtLI.Com members, welcome to another installment of Rant, the official monthly newsletter for Alternative Arts of long Island.
We would like to welcome all of our new members and supporting businesses and thank you for becoming a part of AltArtLI.Com.
We are proud to announce that this past month was huge for Alternative Arts of Long Island in regards to new memberships.
It is very eye opening to see how many people are interested in what the artists of Long Island have to offer.
We encourage all of our new members to become part of the community by getting involved with the interactive portions of the site.
The Country Corner Gallery in coordination with Alternative Arts of Long Island will be having its
on Saturday, September 24, 12 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, September 25, 12 to 6 p.m.
The gallery is located at 264 Route 25A in East Setauket.
This event is intended to offer a unique experience where local artists and musicians will be showcased together in an effort to create a full artistic atmosphere.
A collection of paintings from Reyaz Nadi, Peter Rettegi and Rosanne Kaloustian will be exhibited along with the photography of Steven Grafstein.
Musical entertainment will be offered throughout each day by radiosonic, who will be playing on Saturday, and The Needs, who will be playing on Sunday.
There is a rumor that theDEXorphan will be spinning his brand of jungle break beats between sets, provided he can be liberated from Virginia by the time of the show.
The work of Reyaz Nadi, Steven Grafstein, radiosonic, The Needs and theDEXorphan can all be found at www.altartli.com.
Patrons of this event are urged to make a day of the event by checking out some of the local shops such as Saray Jewelry or the Country Corner Tavern & Bar which are both conveniently located next door to the gallery and are new supporting businesses of Alternative Arts of Long Island.
The Country Corner Tavern & Bar offers a menu that includes a number of tavern favorites, a unique selection of Armenian specialties and a number of premium beers on tap.
Daily admission is $6.00 per person.
For more information, call (631) 751-2800 or visit www.altartli.com.
Need gas?
Alternative Arts of Long Island will be giving you the chance to win free gas by raffling off a Hess Gas Gift Card worth $30.00 each day of this event.
Do you like free beer?
Print this printable pass and present it at the door and get one free beer of your choice at the Country Corner Tavern & Bar located next door to the gallery (must be 21 or older).
Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to welcome James Sebor to the Gallery.
This artist's collection of surrealist work is very thought provoking and visually stimulating.
Every piece offers a world of visual anomalies that tie together to create visions of reality and familiarity in subconsciously manufactured dream like terms.
We are very excited to have James Sebor on board and we urge everyone to view his work.
An interesting piece to check out is the Mousetrap (Video), which shows the technique that James Sebor used to create this piece.
Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to thank Christina of the All Ages Show for her help and support in getting the word out about AltArtLI.Com.
We would also like to welcome the All Ages Show as a new contributor to the Gallery.
The All Ages Show is one of the best radio shows on Long Island to catch some great underground and hard to find music.
The All Ages Show can be found on WUSB 90.1 FM on Long Island on Wednesday nights between 8:00 p.m. — 10:00 p.m., or by listening online.
We would like to welcome Under the Volcano to the Market.
The print version of Under the Volcano, a music fanzine, has been published bi-monthly since 1991, some of which are sold nationally and some which are free on Long Island.
Under the Volcano erupts with music not yet ready for the mainstream, from punk to hardcore to garage and more.
Each issue features tons of audio reviews, columns, and the best interviews you'll read with your favorite bands and personalities, from the gritty hardcore of stalwarts Most Precious Blood to up n' comers like Dearly Departed.
Under the Volcano fanzine also runs Winged Disk Records, a tiny label that sporadically releases records when the planets are in alignment.
Since 1991, Winged Disk has put out records by local bands like Endangered Feces, Sea Monster and Splinterface, but is probably best known for the Something In the Water: The Secret History of Long Island Punk compilation, which includes rare and out of print tracks by Dead Virgins, Jimi LaLumia and the Psychotic Frogs, Horror Planet, Ism, Nihilistics and Sea Monster.
Finally, Alternative Arts of Long Island would also like to welcome Horror Garage to the Market.
Horror Garage is a print magazine which combines the best in original dark fiction with the finest in horrific rock n' roll.
Think Horror of Party Beach, Psychomania, and Death Race 2000: B-movie babes, screamin' skulls, bug-eyed creeps, and gallons of blood.
Horror Garage is published twice yearly (June and December) and has a press run of 5,000.
The cover is full-color glossy, the guts are high-quality newsprint.
Cover price is $5.95.
It can be purchased nationally at Tower, Borders, independent book and record shops, or on the web.
