Hello AltArtLI.Com members, welcome to another installment of Rant!, the official monthly newsletter for Alternative Arts of long Island.
We would like to welcome all of our new members and thank you for becoming a part of AltArtLI.Com.
On September 24 and 25, AltArtLI worked in coordination with the Country Corner Gallery (located in East Setauket) to put on a grand opening show for the gallery.
We were glad to see everyone that turned out and we walked away from this experience feeling good.
The show at times felt more like an intimate gathering and had its surprises such as the Shadow Man who came out of nowhere and rocked the house on the first night with members of the featured band, radiosonic, and our own lovable Ted.
We would like to thank The Needs, theDEXorphan and radiosonic for putting on great performances and helping us promote the show.
We would also like to thank featured artists Reyaz Nadi, Steven Grafstein, Peter Rettegi and Rosanne Kaloustian for their positive attitudes and all of their contributions.
The Country Corner Gallery will continue to show the work of the aforementioned artists until October 24.
If you get a chance, stop down and check it out or click here for more details.
Pictures from the event can be found in the Shed.
Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to thank Sahak Saraydarian, owner of the Country Corner Gallery, for giving us the opportunity to coordinate the gallery's grand opening, which showcased some of the talent affiliated with Alternative Arts of Long Island.
It was an honor to work with Sahak and the staff of the Country Corner Tavern & Bar.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who helped with the show, and all the people that came down to support us for rising to the occasion and making this a positive, rewarding experience.
Due to this show and the promotion of it, we are proud to announce that our site has had a huge jump in visitors consistently over the past three weeks.
This show was our first step in putting together the full picture of Alternative Arts of Long Island.
The web site has its purpose, but from the beginning, the direction of Alternative Arts of Long Island was to organize and promote shows for artists and businesses associated with Alternative Arts of Long Island.
Each show we do will make the next one better and we are anxious to begin plans for a show possibly in the Spring of 2006.
To get involved, email us at info@altartli.com.
Alternative Arts of Long Island would like to welcome Emily Bowers to the Gallery.
Emily Bowers was born and raised on Long Island, New York.
She attended Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York graduating with a B.A. in Studio Art in May, 2004.
Emily has a great selection of paintings up on the site, which are well worth checking out.
Some of her work has been on display at the Tiger Lily Cafe located in Port Jefferson.
To find out where you can see more of her work, click here.
Emily Bowers is now prepared to offer her custom reprint services to the public.
For business owners, homeowners, or art lovers of any kind who want to own a painting by one of their favorite artists, Emily's custom reproductions are done by hand, lending an authentic feel to the subject.
Even the highest quality lithograph or poster cannot compare with the warmth and depth of a hand-painted canvas.
For further information on these services contact angelo@emilybowers.com.
Finally, we would like to welcome The Clap to the Music Studio.
This band is bringing old school punk back to Long Island and is a welcomed addition to the site.
Twin brothers Matt and Paul decide to thrash the house.
Joined by Shawn and lil' Matt they started to gain a small following on Long Island.
A few years later and a different line up; Shawn, Matt, Lou, and Nick are still playing, locally and sometimes not so locally.

Windblown World is all about the ENERGY of Kerouac and is a great look into his mind during some of his most influential writings. You get a real sense of Kerouac as a person outside of his books and feel his hunger, anguish and his desire to just GO. The book is a collection of journals, but the chronology of it gives a nice timeline to his thoughts. Less scattered but also less momentous than his collection of writings in Some of the Dharma, these journals are wonderful snippets. Very personal and very admirable, if you're a fan of Kerouac, pick this one up!
