Welcome to another installment of Rant! the official newsletter of Alternative Arts of Long Island.
We would like to send out our warmest holiday greetings to all of our members along with welcoming all of our new members, businesses and contributing artists.
We thank all of our members who have been getting involved in the community aspects of AltArtLI.Com over the past month, and we would like to take this time to invite everyone to get involved in some of the discussions going on in the message boards.
|
 |
|
One of the latest threads on the message boards is called ATT VISUAL ARTISTS – TIRED OF GETTING SCREWED?
This thread is a discussion that addresses issues artists face when dealing with the business side of the art world.
If you are an artist or a business that deals with art, check this thread out in the Art Studio message board and add your two cents.
This is a perfect way to get involved in our community and share ideas, which in turn strengthens us all as artists and supporters.

Alternative Arts of Long Island is proud to welcome Edison Glass to the Music Studio.
Edison Glass are four friends that began playing music in 1998 on Long Island.
Singer/guitarist Joshua Silverberg gathered up his neighbors, brothers Josh "Mountain" (singer/bassist) and Joe Morin (drummer), and friend James Usher (guitarist) to form Mannafest.
Over the years, they independently released three full length albums, two EPs, and a music video.
2002 brought new musical vision to the band and with it, a new name: Edison Glass.
The name comes from two great American minds of the 20th century, Thomas Edison and Philip Glass.
With a broad range of influences, Edison Glass have written over 100 songs and plan to release their debut album on Credential Recordings, A Burn Or A Shiver in January of 2006.

We would also like to welcome Mikhail Gubin to the Art Studio and the Darkroom.
This artist was born in Russia and has a very eye opening history.
His bio' page is very interesting and outlines the struggle he faced as an artist living under an oppressive political regime.
This is a great reminder of how valuable it is to be able to express ourselves artistically.
Mikhail's art is broken up into two groups entitled Paintings and Graphic Work.
Both sets are very interesting and original.
He also is showing some very compelling photography in the Darkroom.
These sometimes dark and shadowy images show moments of pure honesty.
Please check out this artist's work and let him know what you think.

Alternative Arts of Long Island invites you to check out the work of Marna Schoenwald to the Art Studio.
Marna has put up a selection of work that is broken up into three groups entitled Spiritualscapes, Landscapes and Cityscapes.
Each group shows a different world of style, emotion and color.
Marna feels that her work is a reflection of the inner and outer worlds that surround us.
Please check out her work, we are proud to have Marna on board.
